Herbert Janssen (Baritone)
Born in Cologne in 1892, the baritone Herbert Janssen made his début at the Berlin Staatsoper in 1922 and continued to appear with the company for the following sixteen years, while establishing a wider career with appearances at Bayreuth and Covent Garden. He left Germany in 1938 and made his début at the New York Metropolitan Opera the following year as Wotan in Siegfried, continuing with the company until his retirement in 1952. He died in New York in 1965.

The German baritone, Wolf-Matthias Friedrich, studied singing at the Leipzig
College of Music and was a prize-winner in the International Dvorák Competition
in Carlovy Vary in 1980.
From 1982 to 1986 Wolf-Matthias Friedrich was a member of the opera studio at
the Dresden State Opera. Since 1986 he has made a name for himself in concert
recitals and as Lieder specialist, ass his numerous highly-acclaimed CD’s
testify. Commitments in the opera and concert world have taken him all over
Europe and several times to Israel.
In addition Wolf-Matthias Friedrich teaches at the Leipzig
College of Music and Drama.

The German baritone, Johannes-Christoph Happel, studied first church music and
afterwards singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover with
Gabriele von Glasow and Theo
Altmeyer. With first prizes and scholarships excellently, he had already
engagements as a singer on German stages during his studies. After his opera and
concert exam, Mario Venzago invited him to the Theatre of the City Heidelberg.
Since 1991 Johannes-Christoph Happel works as free lancer. As a concert singer
Johannes-Christoph Happel predominantly concerns himself with the music of the
Baroque and works with different renowned ensembles and conductors in this area
together. Beside for this period, his repertoire includes the typical bass
literature with compositions of the Viennese Classical period, Lieder and
oratorios of the Romantic period, as well as contemporary music.
Johannes-Christoph Happel has given concerts in music festivals such as Antwerp,
Bonn, Ludwigsburg, Schwetzingen, the Jerusalem Festival, the Wiener Festwochen,
Wratislavia Cantans and in the Paris Old Opera, where he has co-operated with
distinguished conductors such as Frieder
